Global News reports that two fast-thinking commuters on a Colorado Springs transit bus stopped a possible disaster on October 14 when the driver passed out from a medical emergency. The incident happened aboard a Mountain Metropolitan Transit (MMT) Route 1 bus headed from Hillside to Hancock Plaza about 7:45 am.
Global News claims that one passenger hurried to the front of the bus while another ran from the rear to seize possession of the steering wheel as the driver fell from his seat. They called a dispatcher for help after securely stopping the bus. Just three individuals were on board at the time: the driver, the two passengers who heroically stopped a major accident,
Inside the bus, video footage shows the two passengers sprinting to the front as the driver drops from his seat. One is heard asking the invisible driver, “Are you all right?” while apparently clutching a coffee cup.
The other is stopped at a bus stop and hears radioing a dispatcher to document the emergency.
“Dispatch, I am on No. 1 southbound,” the second passenger responded. Your bus driver is having a seizure. The bus is parked here.
As the bus came to stop, he remarked, “He’s breathing, but the seizure seems to have stopped.”
Elaine Sheridan, MMT spokesman, told Fox News Digital that although the agency’s name is the second passenger who stepped into the driver’s seat, he has not been contacted to seek permission to reveal his identify. She stated, the second passenger departed the area before first responders showed up since he had to get to work.
“We would want these guests to get passes as a token of our gratitude for their help that morning,” Sheridan said. “We have publicly asked that these passengers get in touch.”
