Over the concern of a possible terrorist assault, Israel’s national security council urged Israelis on Wednesday to immediately leave some tourist sites in southern Sri Lanka.
The agency claimed the warning was to the area of Arugam Bay and beaches in the south and west of Sri Lanka and resulted from “current information about a terrorist threat focused on tourist areas and beaches”.

The security council urged Israelis living in the remainder of Sri Lanka to be careful and avoid organising big public events as it did not state the precise type of the danger.
The national security council of Israel urged its citizens to leave some southern Sri Lankan tourism hotspots right away.
“The Israeli security establishment… is following the developments… and is in close touch with the security authorities in Sri Lanka,” it stated.
Declaring it had received “credible information warning of an attack targeting popular tourist locations in the Arugam Bay area,” the U.S. embassy in Sri Lanka likewise issued a security notice.
“U.S. citizens are strongly urged to avoid the Arugam Bay area until further notice,” it said but omitted specifics.
Citing “indications of possible attacks on tourist destinations,” Germany’s Foreign Ministry likewise advised visitors to avoid or depart the area immediately.
Police security has been strengthened in the region and authorities are on high alert, police spokesman Nihal Thalduwa said in a video statement issued in Colombo.
“This region is well-known for surfing, and it has drawn many of Israeli visitors. We want to make sure they stay protected,” Thalduwa remarked.
