NCERT PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024 replaces National Achievement Survey: Key Differences and Implications

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has overhauled how India’s educational system would be evaluated by substituting the PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024 for the long-standing National Achievements Survey (NAS).
Set for December 4, 2024, the modification offers a unique approach to assess the standard of the national educational system.Under NCERT, PARAKH, an independent evaluation agency, is now in charge of this national-level survey, which will operate apart from the prior NAS framework.

While PARAKH provides a more comprehensive and globally integrated evaluation system, NAS, which runs every three years since 2001, focused on assessing student competencies at various educational levels.

The introduction of PARAKH aims to raise awareness of India’s educational scene in its whole. PARAKH will look at entire schools as entities, so providing a system-level assessment of education across districts unlike NAS, which largely evaluated student performance in key subjects. NCERT claims that this change more closely aligns with worldwide surveys like the Program for worldwide Student Assessment (PISA), so implying a drive towards global best practices in educational evaluation.
Covering 75,565 institutions, the next poll will evaluate nearly 22,04,477 students from Grades 3, 6, and 9 across major areas including Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and “The World Around Us.” This more comprehensive strategy is to give students complete awareness of their educational paths, therefore highlighting both institutional structures supporting their education as well as areas for personal development in individual students.
