On Wednesday, New Zealand’s big-hitting opener Chad Bowes struck the fastest double hundred in List A cricket, surpassing the record kept by Australian Travis Head and India’s Narayan Jagadeesan with just 103 balls. Playing for Canterbury against Otago in the Ford Trophy, the South African-born New Zealand batsman broke the record for the fastest double century in the 50-over form.

Bowes was eventually dismissed for 205 off 110 deliveries.

Head and Jagadeesan both had attained their respective double hundreds in 114 balls.

While Tamil Nadu’s Jagadeesan accomplished record-breaking 275 against Arunachal Pradesh in the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy, Head accomplished the mark for South Australia against Queensland in the 2021-22 Marsh Cup.

Originally missing out on making it to New Zealand’s white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, Bowes raced to his century in 53 balls and fell short by four balls to match Ross Taylor’s record (off 49 balls).
Bowes arrived at half-century in 26 balls.

Bowes hammered 27 fours and seven sixes as he drove Canterbury to 343 for 9 after they were put in to bat at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. This marks his hundredth List A match. Canterbury then secured a great 240-run victory by bowling Otago for 103.

Born in Benoni, South Africa, the 32-year-old Bowes also became the first participant in tournament history to record a double century. How did Central Stags score 222 in the 2012/13 tournament?

Easily surpassing his previous best of 126, Bowes had a List A score of Renowned for his swashbuckling top of the order batting, he has also occasionally participated in ODIs and T20 Internationals for New Zealand.
